Annual Report 2024 – The Rhine
This report provides an up-to-date overview of the water quality of the Rhine at the intake points and monitoring locations of our member water companies. New this year are the monitoring sites Ridderkerk (Lek) and Katerveer (IJssel), thanks to cooperation with Oasen and Vitens respectively. With this expansion, we are providing a broader picture of the connection in the Dutch Rhine basin.

An important point of attention this year is the expected increase in lithium in the Rhine due to the growing battery industry. RIWA-Rijn stresses the importance of careful licensing and enforcement to prevent pollution.
Lastly, this year the International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine (ICPR) celebrated its 75th anniversary. A milestone that shows what cooperation can achieve. But as this annual report also shows: vigilance remains necessary. The Rhine deserves our constant attention – not only to preserve what is going well, but especially to improve what could be even better.
