Knowledge Network on Pharmaceutical Residues

On 21 November, the Knowledge Network on Pharmaceutical Residues will host a meeting where the water and healthcare sectors exchange knowledge and work together to reduce pharmaceutical residues in water.

Gerard Stroomberg (Director, RIWA-Rijn) and Drs. Heleen Dekker will address the issue of contrast agents in Dutch surface waters. They will discuss the presence of these persistent substances in river water and the challenges they pose for drinking water production.

Drs. Heleen Dekker is a radiologist at Radboud University Medical Center. She combines medical expertise with sustainable water practices and is active as chair of the Sustainability Working Group within the Dutch Society of Radiology (NVvR), a member of the NVvR Quality Committee, and part of the Sustainability Subcommittee of the European Society of Radiology.

The Vecht Valley Day shows how the Vecht region is working on clean and sufficient water, nature, and climate resilience. Farmers, municipalities, water boards, and nature organizations cooperate here to create a future-proof water system.

For professionals in the water sector, the day offers inspiration and practical examples: from stream restoration and climate buffers to cooperation with local residents. Participants experience in the field how theory and policy are translated into concrete projects.
