This report provides an up-to-date overview of the water quality of the Rhine at the abstraction points and monitoring locations of our affiliated drinking water companies. New this year are the monitoring locations at Ridderkerk (Lek) and Katerveer (IJssel), made possible through cooperation with Oasen and Vitens, respectively. With this expansion, we present a broader picture of the interconnections within the Dutch Rhine river basin.

An important point of attention this year is the expected increase in lithium concentrations in the Rhine as a result of the growing battery industry. RIWA-Rijn emphasizes the importance of careful permitting and enforcement to prevent pollution.
Finally, this year the International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine (ICPR) celebrated its 75th anniversary—a milestone that demonstrates what cooperation can achieve. But as this annual report also shows, vigilance remains essential. The Rhine deserves our continuous attention—not only to preserve what is going well, but above all to improve what can still be improved.
